"Do we need a Funeral Director?"
No, you're not required to have one. They are however incredibly helpful in making sure you have covered all the bases and make the process much easier and memorable.
-Regulations:
"Do we need a permit to spread ashes in the lake, river or sea?"
No, in New Zealand you are not required to have a licence, permit to but you may need permission from the local Māori, iwi to grant permission as the food source (i.e. fish) may be effected in certain regions which do for you. In some rare occasions like public parks, waterways and lakes you might need to speak with your local Council and contact a Funeral Director.
-What are the regulations around cremations at sea?
There are very few regulations within New Zealand but it is best to speak with a professional like a Funeral Director to ensure the area and location of where you are releasing the ashes are permitted which we do for you.
